Villa Rose – 1
Waialua Fresh Egg Farm serves as a shining example of how solar energy can power agricultural operations while promoting sustainability. Located on O’ahu’s North Shore, the farm operates entirely off-grid, using solar arrays to meet all its energy needs. The solar installation also serves a dual purpose: powering the farm and providing shade for the hens, promoting animal welfare. This integration of renewable energy with operational benefits highlights the innovative approach Waialua Fresh takes toward sustainable agriculture. By transitioning to solar, the farm has significantly reduced its energy costs, ensuring a stable energy supply and independence from Hawaii’s utility grid.

SOLAR SOLUTION
Waialua Fresh’s solar installation covers several acres of land and is entirely self-sufficient. The solar array powers everything from henhouses to water pumps, lighting, and refrigeration systems. It not only meets the farm’s current energy needs but also prepares the farm for future expansion without reliance on the public grid. The farm’s solar panels generate enough electricity to power the entire operation year-round, with the excess energy stored in batteries for use during cloudy periods.
RESULT
Thanks to solar, Waialua Fresh has reduced its operating costs while enhancing its commitment to sustainability. The farm now enjoys 100% energy independence, allowing it to remain resilient even during utility grid outages, storms, or price hikes. Additionally, the solar installation has improved animal welfare by providing cooler environments for the hens under the shade of the panels. The combination of energy savings, operational efficiency, and eco-friendly practices has positioned Waialua Fresh as a leader in sustainable farming.
“We make 100% of our own power through solar arrays on the property. Sustainability is front of mind in everything we do. Solar energy enables us to serve the local community with fresh, sustainably sourced eggs, free from the high costs of electricity.”
